OUR COMMITTEES

UNITED NATIONS OFFICE ON DRUGS AND CRIME (UNODC)

Agenda: The escalating threat of cyberwarfare and organized large-scale cybercrime, with special emphasis on attacks targeting federal institutions.

“Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past.”

In the new era of digital dominance, where everyone and everything is being constantly surveilled; where firewalls are the new frontiers and cybercriminal syndicates operate with the precision of paramilitary forces, the lines between national security and digital terrorism have begun to blur. From state-sponsored cyberattacks to sophisticated ransomware, the battlefield is no more confined to land, but extends to every company, every house and every computer. Civilians have become soldiers, whether they know it or not.

Established in 1997, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is a global leader in the fight against illicit drugs, transnational organized crime, terrorism, and corruption. As cybercrime emerges as the modern face of these threats, UNODC now stands at the frontlines of a new kind of battle—one fought not with weapons but with code, where the enemy is invisible, and every click is a potential trigger.

The internet has no borders—but your actions today will define the limits of law and order in cyberspace tomorrow. Will you encrypt the future or allow it to be corrupted? The keys are in your hands.

The dystopia we fear doesn’t come with fire or famine—it comes through blind trust. It’s now up to you to bring justice. Let’s make cyber peace a reality.

Meet The Executive Board of UNODC

UNITED NATIONS HUMAN RIGHTS
COUNCIL (UNHRC)

Agenda: Addressing the enforcement of land rights of indigenous peoples, with special emphasis on enforcing ‘Free, Prior, and Informed Consent’

“Human rights are not a privilege conferred by the government. They are every human being's entitlement by virtue of his humanity.” - Mother Teresa

Welcome to the United Nations Human Rights Council,
Established in 2006, it aims to ensure universal respect for human rights and address violations, including gross and systematic ones.

Delegates will tackle the pressing challenge of upholding indigenous peoples' land and territorial rights  while fostering sustainable development to aid the preservation and flourishing of their distinct traditions and ways of life. During committee, they will analyze existing frameworks, propose improvements, and explore international cooperation, working together to craft solutions that prioritise indigenous voices and promote resilient, inclusive development.

By jumping into the UNHRC, you're not just playing diplomat for a day – you're becoming a voice for the voiceless and working towards a world where everyone's rights are respected.

Meet The Executive Board of UNHRC

KARTIK BURAKIA
Deputy Chairperson

Kartik thrives on competition and creativity, whether he's taking layups in basketball, smashing it in squash, or calling the shots in a game of pool. Off the court, he swaps strategy for strings, strumming his way through life on the guitar. Add a sharp mind for debating and a love for MUNning, and you’ve got someone who’s always game — whether it's sports, music, or making a point.

GAURIKA AGARWAL
Chairperson

If you ever see someone who is a whirlwind of energy with a tennis racket in one hand, you have met Gaurika!! A potential overthinker who smashes her way into everything (maybe someone's head too), she is a staunch believer in using her hands to emote in speeches. She thrives in chaos and creates it. With a focus on inclusivity and creativity, her leadership will empower delegates to address pressing human rights concerns and work towards equitable solutions. She's complicated, dramatic and just a little crazy, making her presence unforgettable.

YASHVEER SINGH
Moderator

Meet your UNHRC moderator, Yashveer—a running enthusiast with marathon-level energy and a self-proclaimed sense of humor that he swears is top-tier. When not guiding debate, he’s doodling “art”(mostly stick figures) and dropping puns no one asked for. Equal parts charming and chaotic, Yashveer promises a committee filled with diplomacy and dad jokes. Brace yourselves—for human rights and some truly questionable humor.

UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY (UNGA)

Agenda: Evaluating the impact of protectionism on global economic security and development

Established in 1945 under the Charter of the United Nations, the General Assembly occupies a central position as the chief deliberative, policy making and representative organ of the United Nations.

Protectionism, a way of promoting the nation's goods, of developed countries has taken the center stage, with its impacts on global and economic security and development to be discussed and debated on.

The UNdesirable widening of the GAp between the rich and the rising is the future if you don't bring about the change.
The deal is yours to decide.

They say most chaos begins with words, so delegates, get set to witness a committee dealing with the clash of the dynamic west and the assertive east.

Money makes the world go round—but what happens when the wheels start squeaking?

Welcome to the UNGA: the ultimate arena where you have the power to redefine global trade, spark intense negotiation battles, and build groundbreaking alliances between the world’s richest powers and the emerging giants.

Let’s get down to business—the world’s waiting!

Meet The Executive Board of UNGA

ALL INDIA POLITICAL PARTIES MEET (AIPPM)

Agenda: 1. Deliberation upon the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act 2023 and Digital Personal Data Protection Rules 2025 and
2. Evaluating the status and extent of freedom of speech and expression in India, in light of recent events

Diplomacy? Check. Controversy? Check. Consensus? Rare. Whether you’re the experienced UN committee delegate looking for something new, or a keen follower of Indian politics, you’ve come to the right place. Where you assume the roles of some of the biggest names in the largest democracy in the world, to discuss some of the most pressing issues in India, this committee promises to be no less exciting than a roller coaster ride. Presenting to you, the All-India Political Parties Meet!

Generally convened before a parliamentary session to discuss matters and come to a consensus in order to utilise the parliament’s time more efficiently, an AIPPM at a MUN is a simulation consisting of delegates representing prominent figures belonging from various political parties.

This year’s AIPPM promises to be one of the best committees at SMUN. As we discuss the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Rules and Act, and the status and extent of freedom of speech and expression in India, the debate shall know no end. Be prepared.

Meet The Executive Board of AIPPM

ZAHAAN BIJLI
Deputy Chairperson

The quintessential boy next door who quietly comes and goes. That is until you are up against him in a MUN session or on the debate podium. There, he can present facts, narrate eloquently, and argue forcefully with you and in doing so, decimate you. When he is not ‘in-session’, he is busy enhancing his knowledge from any source possible. You can ask him anything and he will have an answer. Most of all, he’s a great friend to many, and a thinking, gentle leader who gets things done nicely.

PARTH NAIK
Chairperson

There are three kinds of creations - living, non-living and Parth. Accused of being a procrastinator (he doesn’t deny it), Parth has an unmatched passion for Indian politics and is one who never backs down in a debate! Heard ‘fake it till you make it?’ He believes otherwise- face it till you ace it.  With a voice loud enough to be heard across classrooms, public speaking certainly books a spot on Parth’s resume. His approachability makes him the right mentor for first-timers. Don’t be surprised if you hear him occasionally giving a dose of “How’s the josh?” in committee because where there’s Parth, there’s energy. Dedicated, entertaining and confident(over?), Parth is the perfect Chairperson for AIPPM.

SRIYAAN VANKA
Moderator

Sriyaan believes, "The only way to get better is to push through the pain, to break yourself down, and then rebuild yourself stronger.” He's a guy with nothing to lose, someone willing to give his best to every quest he embarks on. His delusional self is sure to bring all of the excitement and enthusiasm to the committee. He’s an aggressive athlete, a disciplined student, and a part-time (non professional) controversialist. His insatiable hunger for knowledge and power drives him to work hard each day and focus on every task at hand. From idolizing David Goggins, to being stuck in a world of superheroes and comic books, he is sure to give you one heck of an experience this year.

THE AFRICAN UNION (AU)

Agenda: Deliberation upon the ongoing conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo

The drums of conflict reverberate once more in Central Africa. The Democratic Republic of the Congo accuses Rwanda of fanning the flames of unrest by supporting vicious militias like the M23 Movement. The two nations are bound by a history of civil wars, shifting alliances, and shaky ceasefires, Africa now stands on the verge of disaster.

The African Union faces a critical challenge: how will it de-escalate a crisis in which diplomacy is on a knife's edge and armed groups threaten to plunge the area into even greater chaos. Delegates must manage claims of foreign influence, humanitarian disasters, and the decades-long war in the Great Lakes region.

This session requires more than just resolutions; it also calls for courageous leadership, inventive diplomacy, persuasive lobbying and decisive action. Will the African Union rise to the challenge, or will history record this as another squandered opportunity for peace?

Meet The Executive Board of AU

KENNETH THOMAS
Deputy Chairperson

Kenneth is an exemplary student and maintains the best academic performance in his class. His commitment also makes him a leader among his peers. Kenneth proves to be just as talented on the basketball court as he is in the classroom. So, bring your best research, arguments and maybe a comeback or two (you're gonna need them). Rest assured that the committee’s in good hands... slightly sarcastic but very capable hands.

JASH LALWANI

Whether he’s immersed in a competitive match or overthinking a play he made two rounds ago, one thing’s for sure—he doesn’t leave anything half complete. Fuelled by pure passion, he leads with creativity and laughs like the world’s in on the joke. Jash will go from contemplating the meaning of life to breaking into a full-blown dance routine, sometimes in the middle of a sentence. When it’s party time, he’s the first on the dance floor and the last to leave because if there’s music and a crowd, you know Jash is already at the center, turning up the vibe.

UNITED NATIONS DISARMAMENT AND INTERNAITONAL SECURITY COMMITTEE (DISEC)

Agenda: Deliberation upon the militarisation of the Arctic region

“The snow that stretches its lands reminds us of the beauty and mystery of the wonders that lie beneath the Arctic Snow.”

The icy expanses of the north have, for as long as we know, paved a road for debate, deliberation and urge the need for efficient communication and peace talks.

For this edition of Scottish Model United Nations Powai, we bring you The Disarmament and International Security Committee, which dives into complex issues surrounding the militarisation of the Arctic region where naval pathways and bases are charting a new course for global security debates. So buckle up for enthralling debates, passionate deliberation, fiery paperwork and careful consideration of national interests and international cooperation. These issues have withstood the test of time; challenging the principles of international law, rebalancing the global order as we know it and demands compact negotiation towards diplomatic resolutions and world peace. So, delegates the question for you is, would you be able to draft a solution to share the northern waters or will the Arctic remain a web of never-ending complexities?

Meet The Executive Board of DISEC

UNITED NATIONS SPECIAL
POLITICAL AND DECOLONISATION
COMMITTEE (SPECPOL)

Agenda: Assessment of Neo-colonialism in Africa, and solutions for the same.

“They left the chains, but kept the reins.”
Welcome to the United Nations Special Political and Decolonization Committee (a.k.a. SPECPOL), where the world’s toughest issues get a seat at the table. Be prepared to fight at the UN’s frontline for political battles and decolonisation. Here, we rewrite history’s wrongs and shape the future of nations — one fierce debate at a time. It’s pure diplomacy in action — one that conjures solutions that transcend nation's boundaries which have impacts on all nations—from the largest to the smallest of them all.

Let's take a sneak peek into what our agenda is. What exactly is neo-colonialism?  Well, here's the crash course. It is a new form of colonialism where nation ‘A’ exerts control over a nation ‘B’ through economic, political, and cultural means, instead of direct military rule. It involves influencing a country's economy, culture, trade, and foreign and internal policies without explicitly colonising it. Step into the reality of neo-colonialism: where old empires rebrand, and new powers rule without ever setting foot on your land.

Meet The Executive Board of SPECPOL

STUTI SINHA
Deputy Chairperson

Fueled by curiosity and caffeine, Stuti's just as likely to be performing Tchaikovsky's compositions on the piano as she is admiring the beautiful V8 engine of a Koenigsegg Regera. Armed with an expertise in the art of English Creative Writing, she's now refining her skills in her second language - Python. Considered a STEM prodigy by her peers, she brings her analytical mind to everything, including debate. In the arena of arguments, she's a strategist, crafting her points with the precision of an F1 driver and deconstructing rebuttals with finesse. She treats every debate like a challenge, using each one as an opportunity to learn, grow and fine-tune her approach for the next intellectual battle.
